Volunteer Adviser: Margaret

I used to work at the Employment Tribunal Service and through contact with Citizens Advice Bureau in that context, knew a little bit about its work. Early in 2005 I heard an article on Radio Newcastle stating that it was the Year of the Volunteer and that Newcastle Citizens Advice Bureau was looking for volunteers. I was accepted on the training programme and have recently completed the required written work and a five-day course based at Newcastle Civic Centre.

I have found the CAB training process to be comprehensive, detailed and thorough. My Guidance Tutor, the other advisers and my fellow trainees have supported me along the way. At the end of the training programme I am aware that I will have to be prepared to advise on a wide range of topics but am confident that the system can support me in my role as a volunteer adviser.
