Volunteer Adviser: Richard

One day, after retiring early from Barclyas Bank, I lost interest in daytime television, and went out to look for a voluantary part time job that was different. A friend suggested the CAB and after 10 years I still get a buzz from the variety of clients we deal with and the problems which theb bring.

An advisors role is interesting and challenging. It can also be frustrating when a client cannot for various reasons be helped but that is part of any job. A good back up form permanent paid staff is important and fortunately we have that support in Newcastle.

The training for the job has changed a lot since I started and judgling by the performance of my younger colleagues is geared to our providing a more professional service.

To anyone with time to spare and who is interested in dealing face to face with people of various backgrounds, religion and race I would recommend the job. Back to the top of the page
